Town of Greensboro Announces Selection of Captain Prendi V. Garcia as Next Chief of Police
Greensboro, Maryland — The Town of Greensboro is pleased to announce the selection of Captain Prendi V. Garcia of the Maryland State Police as the Town’s next Chief of Police.
Captain Garcia brings nearly three decades of distinguished law enforcement leadership and public service to Greensboro. Throughout his career with the Maryland State Police, he has held numerous command and leadership positions, overseeing complex operations, personnel development, community engagement initiatives, and public safety programs across the State of Maryland.
In addition to his executive leadership experience, Captain Garcia possesses extensive expertise in criminal investigations, narcotics enforcement, and complex criminal case management. During his career, he has investigated numerous serious criminal offenses and drug-related cases that have resulted in successful prosecutions in both Maryland State Courts and the United States Federal Court system. His broad investigative background, coupled with his executive leadership experience, has earned him a reputation for professionalism, integrity, and a steadfast commitment to justice.
Captain Garcia has been credited with 29 years of dedicated service with the Maryland State Police, where he has served in a variety of patrol, investigative, supervisory, and command assignments. His career reflects an unwavering commitment to public safety, organizational excellence, and the professional development of law enforcement personnel.
In addition to his law enforcement career, Captain Garcia is a proud United States Army Veteran. He honorably served the nation as a Military Police Soldier for more than 33 years, recently retiring from military service with an Honorable Discharge. His combined military and law enforcement careers represent more than six decades of dedicated service to the citizens of the United States and the State of Maryland.
Captain Garcia will officially retire from the Maryland State Police on August 1, 2026, concluding an accomplished career dedicated to protecting the citizens of Maryland. In accordance with applicable Federal and Maryland State Retirement laws, he is required to observe a minimum 45-day separation period following his retirement before accepting municipal employment. As a result, Captain Garcia is expected to officially assume his duties as Chief of Police in mid-September 2026.

Upon assuming his new role, Chief Garcia’s priorities will include strengthening community trust, enhancing public safety through proactive policing strategies, recruiting, and developing highly qualified officers, fostering transparency and accountability, and ensuring the Greensboro Police Department remains a professional, service-oriented organization dedicated to protecting the community.
“I am deeply honored by the confidence the Mayor and Town Council have placed in me,” said Captain Garcia. “Serving the citizens of Maryland through the Maryland State Police and serving our nation in the United States Army have been the greatest privileges of my professional life. I look forward to continuing that service in Greensboro by working alongside town officials and members of the community to build strong partnerships, enhance public safety, and ensure Greensboro remains a safe and welcoming place to live, work, and visit.”
